Every year around this time The Sprinkler Guy gets asked “when should I fire up the sprinklers?” The answer is simple. Never turn on your sprinkler system before April 15th or you could experience problems due to sudden and unexpected temperature drops common in Colorado during the early springtime. Although it can be 90 degrees in April, it can also be snowing the next day with sub zero temps. The record low in Denver for April is -2 back on April 2, 1975.
If you do decide to activate your sprinklers early in the season make sure to wrap up your PVB with insulation and a plastic bag or call The Sprinkler Guy and I’ll take care of it so your concerns are lessened.
